5 Tips To Get Out Of A Fashion Rut

Surprise! I did another post, a post that was actually posted earlier than expected. Might do another one even sooner, but we’ll see! Anyway, today we’re going to be talking about fashion ruts. Fashion ruts can be really frustrating, simply because you don’t know what to wear or what to buy, and feel as if you hit a wall with your overall style.

Luckily, I have some really helpful tips to actually get you out your fashion rut (if you are in one) and into one fashionable happy gal. So let’s begin!

Know your style

In order to get out of a fashion rut, find what styles make you happy. You have to know what you like and what you’re actually drawn to so you don’t have a closet full of regretful/unloved items. Stop buying things just because it was on sale or you wanted to buy something, but instead, buy what you actually love! Figure out what types of clothes you like wearing, what you look good in and what makes you feel great, and from there you’ll be able to take the next step.

Get inspired

After you figure out what your style is, it’s time to get inspired! Inspiration is the key to get out your fashion rut because then you’re eager to try something new and to break from your same old style routine. You can flip through magazines, watch fashion shows or look on Pinterest or Instagram to give you new ideas to try! You can even look to your favorite celebrity for some new outfit combos as well, whatever it is, try to open your mind to different fashion options to escape from feeling trapped or stuck.

Clean out your closet

Fashion ruts are also caused due to having a wardrobe full of pieces that you hate. So if you have a big closet, please clean it out and get rid of the things you no longer wear. Why is a sweater that you haven’t even worn in five years still in there? Or why are you even keeping those jeans that don’t even fit you? Just get rid of it! Either donate it, sell it or toss it if you’re not wearing it. Just keep the things you love, and you’ll start to develop a wardrobe full of pieces that you want to wear!

Go shopping

After you clean out your closet you’ll probably realize that you don’t have much to wear. So how do you fix that? Go shopping! However, go into the store with a new attitude. When you shop, shop for quality clothes that actually speak to you. Shop for clothes based on how they fit and if they actually compliment you. Also ask yourself important questions while you’re shopping like, “Is this item too long or too short?” “Is the cut and shape flattering?” “Does this go well with my skin tone?” and go from there. If the answers are yes to all three of those questions, then you picked up some awesome pieces!

Learn from your mistakes

After you figured out your style, tossed out a bunch of your old clothes, and then bought new clothes, you want to learn and grow from it all. It’s easy to make progress, but it’s hard to stick with the progress. Make sure you don’t fall back to old habits and get in a rut again. You need to use methods to stay in a good fashion zone. For example, try to coach yourself in experimenting with new fashion pieces, or asking friends to go shopping with you at the mall to make your fashion life exciting! Whatever it may be, keep yourself motivated with your overall style to prevent any setbacks.

I hope these five tips on getting out of a fashion rut really helped you and inspired you to make a change. Be sure to comment down below some of your tricks that you use to get out of old fashion habits. I’d love to know!
