How To Get The Most Out Of Your Closet

Since we’re already in the middle of January, there’s a high chance you probably want to start putting your new years resolutions into action, and really start get the getting of everything you want to start doing and achieving for the rest of the year.

And if you’re anything like the average person, getting your closet organized is probably one of the top things on that resolution list of yours, that you really want to go on ahead and knock out-of-the-way.
This is of course why I decided to make this post dedicated to all of those people out there that want to improve and better their closet for 2017; so that they can not only organize and clean-up all of their clothes, accessories or shoes, but so that they can actually feel accomplished and successful of completing something on their bucket list.

So let’s get right into this!

Divide your clothes into three piles

In order to get the most out of your closet, you’re going to need to first go through it all and divide it into three piles of what you want to keep, sale/donate and toss; so you’re no longer keeping a bunch of old items in your closet that just takes up a lot of space.
Anything that you haven’t worn longer than 5 months ago and isn’t liked nor being planned on worn anytime soon, needs to be put it in the pile of donation/sale if it’s still in pretty good condition. Or if it’s not in decent or good condition, make sure to put it in the pile of toss, since you or someone else can’t really do anything with it, due to the garment being faded, torn, shrunken or simply just unwearable. And if it’s an item that you think you will actually wear and looks pretty good with the rest of your items that you already own, then you can go on ahead and put it in the keep pile of clothes.
This way, you can visually see all the items you’re removing from your closet as well as the ones that you will actually wear and use, instead of making one huge pile of clothes on the floor.

Use the right hangers in your closet

Getting the right hangers for your closet is key, because you don’t want breakable, unreliable hangers that could possibly misshape or damage some of your high valuable clothing items that you like, and do more harm than anything.

So one of the better hangers to go with that have the best quality than any other hangers on the market; is the thin black velvet hangers, since they’re very slim and small and can hold a variety of different types of materials including silk, cotton, denim and more, without them constantly slipping or sliding all over the place. These hangers will most definitely help make your closet a lot more streamlined, put together and neater, since they don’t even take up a lot of space and are very-very minimal and sleek.

Put in shoe racks

If you’re a shoe gal…like me, then I think it’s very important to go on ahead and invest in a really sturdy tall shoe rack that can fit all of your shoes that you have in your closet. To me, it’s just a lot easier to keep up with all of your shoes that you actually have, so none get lost around the house or forgotten about, since you can clearly see them all in one setting.
Another thing I like about shoe racks, is that you can organize each row of different types of shoes that you own, and can put all of your heels on one row, all of your boots on the other row, and let’s just say all of your gym shoes on another, so that when you go to head out the door, you know exactly what row to go with for a particular style.

Get a jewelry organizer

Trying to go through a bunch of tangled knotted up jewelry that you just threw in a coffee mug or inside of a random cardboard box, is probably one of the worst things you can do for your jewelry.

That is why I highly recommended to get a jewelry organizer that you can literally hang in your closet…kinda like this one, and pocket and hold all of your statement necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, etc, to be able to organize and classify all of them in their proper place.
You can also get a jewelry tray organizer if you want to as well, and put it like on-top of your closet shelf or on your bedside desk, to be able to get to your accessories when you need them.

So I guess this is all my tips and solutions for getting the max out of your closet for the new years, or even just as a task you’ve always wanted to get done in your life! Hopefully you guys found it to be somewhat useful and beneficial, and really helped spark new ideas for getting the most out of your closet space. And If you have any comments or questions that you want to ask or talk about, feel free to leave them in the comments down below, and I will surely do my best to answer and reply to them.

And until next time, I will see you all later…

Bye guys!

  1. Good tips πŸ˜€
I’m guilty of impulse buying and hording at the same time which is somewhat of a bad combination. You’ve reminded me to go through my closet and decide what to keep, donate and toss πŸ˜€

  2. Great post! I think hangers are overlooked when organizing a closet, but such an important factor. I also like using shoe boxes for storing shoes so they do not get dusty , lost or damaged. It is great if you create a good shoe rack system, so the boxes can also fit nicely.

    1. Thank you so much for reading, I appreciate it!
And yes you’re correct, I think hangers do get overlooked even though they are so important! Also, your method with the shoe boxes is a really good ideal, and could definitely fit on a shoe rack especially if they were turned side ways. (:

  3. I love a well organized closet, shoes and all. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a huge walk-in with a chaise lounge and a bureau so you could sit in there and just stare?! I may never have that, but I do keep what I have organized and in good repair. I buy more pieces so I have ample choices when I need them. Clothes I think someone else would love go to the charity shop. I imagine a lady coming in who has been looking for something just like I leave. She jumps up and down (I would), and quickly nabs it before someone else see and wants it. To be blessed with more than enough is such a gift. So, to better keep my dear fashion even more durable, I’ve hopped to Amazon for some of those black velvet hangers you suggested. Excellent post. Highest and Best!
