Knowing your personal style helps give you a sense of direction of who you are, what you like and your overall personality. Without style, you pretty much have no clue of your actual identity.
And knowing who you are is probably one of the most important things that you can know in life, so you don’t just follow, do or wear what everyone else is wearing. And with that being said, here’s some key tips on how you can develop your own sense of style!
Know your personality
The first thing you need to do, is to understand your personality. Most people who don’t have a sense of style don’t understand who they actually are, and therefore don’t know how to go about dressing for themselves. So what you need to do, is sit down, and write down the things that you like, say or engage in, and then label those things into personality traits. This way, you can get a gist of what to look for in stores for yourself, that will actually match up with your unique character!
Understand your body
Knowledge is power. So the second thing you need to do, is understand what kind of body you have and what works for you. If you have a good understanding of your body shape and your strengths and weaknesses, you can buy the right clothes to either accentuate or camouflage certain parts of your body, by wearing certain clothes or accessories. For example, once you discover your proportions and what looks good on you, you can start creating outfits with pieces that flatter and compliment your body shape better, that will take your style to another level!
Keep a scrapbook or pin the styles that inspire you
Whenever you see someone wearing clothes you admire or like, try to get a picture and paste it on a note, a scrapbook or pin it on Pinterest. After a while, you will start to notice a pattern of clothes or colors that you could actually see yourself buying and wearing. Another great thing to do, is to pay attention to certain celebrities or public figures that you think dresses in a manner that you really like, and base your outfits off of similar outfits that they wore. However, just be careful of copying them from head-to-toe, and try to get more inspired on how they dress, instead of being a complete copycat.
Keep note of what looks good on you
You may already pin images or make a scrapbook of clothes that inspire you, but also try to really understand which clothes you actually wear that make you feel GREAT! If you felt wonderful on a particular day wearing a certain outfit, write it down or take a picture of it. I have found that taking ootd pictures of myself is a great way to recognize which outfits work and which ones don’t. This will help you identify your style and prevent you from making future buying mistakes, that don’t match up with who you are.
Make sure your wardrobe contains all the necessary basics for your style
If you’re starting to have a clearer vision of what you like and what suits you, you need to determine if you have the basic essentials that’s necessary for your particular style. So make sure you go through your closet and determine the absolute necessary essentials for yourself, that you know you will wear a lot. So if your style is edgy, make sure you have a lot of edgy pieces, or if your style classic, make sure you have a lot of classic pieces; whatever your style may be, make sure you stick to a guide of always staying true to that!
So that’s all my tips on how to find your personal style. I hope as always that these tips helped you as much as possible, and gave you some type of outline for if you’re struggling with who you are and your fashion style.

Great tips! I have like the worst fashion sense ever but lately I’ve been trying to find clothing that would match with a lot of things that are already in my wardrobe and it definitely helps. Pinterest also helps and as you said, pin outfits that inspire you.
